I just installed the newest version of SimplyMepis_6.0 (Final Release) to the second hard drive on my notebook computer; a Model 1805-S203 in the Toshiba Satellite line. It has the Linksys WPC54GS version 2, PCMCIA (CardBus) wireless adapter installed (pretty-much permanently) for establishing a non-CAT5e connection to our nearly-enterprise-quality home network. There has been some whining in the corridors, relative to some minor release date slips, but you can get your simplyMEPIS 6.0 Final release very easily…despite the fact that some of the mirrors haven’t sync-ed yet, and others are running at lower than optimum bandwidth.

BBC news just posted this article, entitled, Microsoft opens up on file styles; which I presume to actually be speaking to microsoft’s closed, binary, undocumented file formats which they have, heretofore, refused to disclose to the world.

Come the ides-less-four in the month of Caesar, microsoft will (according to their stated plans) resolutely discontinue public support for windoze 98, 98se and win me. Security updates, patches, repairs for bad patches, and anything else that might have come down the windoze update pike will also be a thing of the past–for the little good it ever did anybody.
