Dawn?
Take a look at the following page: http://www.talb.org/elections.htm
Many of the comments therein speak of a new direction for and within TALB (Teacher’s Association of Long Beach), but I’d like to grab the last one for you to look over quickly.
Lynne M. Nielsen
During my 12 years in LBUSD, I have witnessed a steady decline in respect for the teachers of Long Beach and our union’s general lack of interest in issues that matter to teachers. In 2001, I was one of Wilson High School’s site reps and grievance rep. I quickly became discouraged when my phone calls to TALB went unanswered or ignored. It seemed that TALB had lost its enthusiasm for representing teachers. In 2005, a TALB representative visited our school. I liked what I saw and heard from him about the direction TALB washoping to take. I have witnessed a new sense of urgency and a rebirth of enthusiasm from new TALB leadership. TALB is finally moving in the right direction as a teacher advocate, as a union. I want to be part of this new TALB.
Carl Cohn, the former Supreintendent of LBUSD, spoke of a good relationship between LBUSD and TALB; during his time as Superintendent.
Teachers speak of this time in far different terms, as you can see above.
It looks, surprisingly, like TALB is being brought out of the mothballs, and Steinhauser (the current superintendent of LBUSD) is scared witless. (OK, it wasn’t the fright that made him witless, that has been a character trait of his for many years, but you do follow my meaning.)
