LNG/PoLB Non-debate
Once in a while, I take a wander through some of the articles to be found on LBReport.com. Not because I want something approximating bluntly-delivered truth–which I prefer, as a matter of fact–but, because I want to keep up on the run-of-the-mill perspective of the East Long Beach inhabitants. I did so today, and happened upon a newly-posted editorial.
In High-Consequence, Low Probability, the writer, whom I presume to be William Pearl, opined about the LNG/PoLB debate using adjectives which describe the control of Long Beach city council by utterly greedy, shortsighted, buffoons as being “disappointing.” This hints at the kind of callousness that sets forth the tragic aftermath of the landing of hurricane Katrina as “Gee! That’s a shame.” Before somebody writes me back, saying that I am equating the two subjects in terms of tragic import; allow me to clarify that I am doing nothing of the sort. I am speaking to the tendency of people to reduce their descriptions to spineless proportions–simply to effect the appearance of refinement.
Sorry folks. Some situations demand the use of profanity-laced pejoratives to describe certain individuals; not predicated upon any supposed lack of deportment on my part, but solely upon the detestability of said individual, as well as the simple honesty of calling something far more useful to society, such as a shovel, nothing more than, “a shovel.” If you can’t see and admit that…:::sigh:::
Interestingly, several notables in LBUSD just came to mind…but I digress.
It is easily observed in almost every walk of American life, that people have lost the ability to assertively state an opinion or make an observation as a means of clearly identifying the moral position (or lack thereof) of the speaker or writer.
GHOD! How I hate spineless whimps!
